FAQ - Acceptable ScoreThis is a featured page

Question: What is the "acceptable score" for my Turnitin Originality report?
Advice: Unfortunately there is no answer to this question because the "similarity index" (the "score") on Turnitin originality report is not used to make any judgement by the figure alone.

Please see the FAQ - How to interpret the originality report for further details.

Turnitin checks your submission against a number of sources and all previously submitted work. If you or your lecturer(s) have included quotes in your assignment, the originality report will show them as "not original" and include them in your score, regardless of whether you have referenced them or not. And sometimes, the originality report also matched some common sentences or matched the assignment questions, or the assessment cover sheet that all students may have in front of every submitted work - that may bring up the similarity index!

In addition, some essays have a higher proportion of references than others, so it is not possible to set a specific score in Turnitin as the "acceptable" threshold.
